Wednesday (12/2), Rifka Annisa conducted a reflective discussion about Public Relation (PR) in Non Government Organization (NGO). Defirentia One Muharomah, a PR staff of Rifka Annisa, became a facilitator. She started the discussion with a question, “What does come up into your mind when you hear PR?”

The answers were various such as PR could be related to personal image, media, and NGO’s power. One participant also thought negatively about PR because PR was identical to lie and hide the truth. Then, One clarified that PR was related to a professional job in NGO. The negative view about PR was a stereotype and insignificant. Nowadays, PR has had important role in developing NGO since PR is responsible to make a good public perspective towards the institution.

In an organization, especially in Rifka Annisa, PR has a responsibility to spread out the organization’s vision and mission to public so that public would pay attention to the organization. PR should have a good communication skill, such as assertive, logic, and effective. Moreover, PR should be honest but selective. It means that PR has to tell the truth but not all of the information conveyed. The information must be supported by data and fact. Not only verbal communication, PR should also have non verbal skills, for instance having some good skills on drawing, gesture, and body language.

Niken, one of the participants, said that a good PR should have a wide knowledge and also up to date upon some issues.
In conclusion, PR is related to promotion, personal image, communication, campaign, representative, networking, and persuasion. In some organizations, PR can be divided into some specific divisions, for instance public and government affair, media relation and government relation. In a Non Government Organization, PR should have all of those skils. Therefore, PR can handle all problems in community.
