The book ‘Membangun Keluarga Bahagia’ guides couples to create and manage a healthy and happy family through equal cooperation and responsibility between husband and wife. The guidance that provided by the book is also a preventive measure to stop domestic violence by helping couples to deal with the conflict in the family.

One of the important ideas in this book, to build a happy family, each member has to understand their sexual and reproductive rights. Such as, the right of freedom and safe reproductive service, the right to free from all forms of discriminations to receive reproductive health service, the right to acquire information about sexual education and reproductive health service, the right to build a family, the right to free from all forms of torture, rape, and sexual harassment. By understanding those rights every individual will have a healthy reproductive activity and healthy family.

Family is build by two different individuals, that came from different cultural background, religious background, educational background, social and economic status. This situation makes conflict is inevitable. Conflicts occur in many aspects, such as family economy, parenting, and often miscommunication between husband and wife. Therefore couples have to manage their conflict and continue to build a healthy family. On the other hand, continuous conflict between couples often leads to domestic violence, which in most cases happens to women and causing harms towards women. This book also explains the conflict cycle that causing domestic violence: Honeymoon phase – small fights – big fights – domestic violence – forgiveness – honeymoon phase – bigger fights – domestic violence – forgiveness – repeat.

Conflict between couples cannot be avoided, husband and wife have to deal with it and carry on. Communication is one of the fundamental methods to manage the conflict between couples. It can be achieve by implementing some of its principles, such as, mutual respect, mutual understanding between husband and wife, and focus on the main objective. Communication is also important to face family economy problems, which require honesty, understanding, agreement, and equality.

This book also emphasizes the importance of equal responsibility between couple. For example, the husband and the wife can equally have a job to fulfill the family needs and manage the household duties together. Husband and wife have to have the same amount of role and responsibility in the family based on their skills and weaknesses. This can be related to the equal and balanced child-nurturing role between husband and wife in the family. Equal parenting gives children a lot more attention, affection, and safety.

If the conflict cannot be managed through communication, mutual respect, and mutual understanding, the couple could reach for help of some qualified third party.

This book is can be implemented in daily life to build a happy and healthy relationship with our partner. It is very light to read with the familiar choice of words, thus, everyone can fully understand the objective. This book is also using religious approach, which makes it very relatable. The guidance that provided by the book is also very helpful to de-escalate family conflicts, managing family issues, and preventing domestic violence.[]
